We're giving away 100 REX licences... It's dino-mite!
What is REX?
REX is a vulnerability scanner, it’s designed specifically for developers and software testers to help them test the security of android applications. With REX, you can scan you Android apps as they’re being developed to detect security weaknesses early and often. This is a different approach to traditional “penetration testing” where a human will manually look for security issues when development is complete.
There’s nothing like REX on the market at the moment and Innovate UK believe a tool like REX will help companies to release applications faster and more safely. This will help businesses respond better to situations like the current lockdown due to COVID-19 and help them become less dependant on expensive external security consultancies.
REX isn’t an acronym, we just really like dinosaurs!
What do we need from you?
We need Android developers and software testers to help us test REX. There are multiple ways to use REX and you are free to use any depending on your needs and current setup. The easiest way to initiate a scan is to upload a compiled APK in the web application but we also have a Jenkins plugin that will run a scan when the application is built. Finally, REX exposes a web API which means it’s easy to write a plugin for any tool of your choosing allowing REX to fit into any pipeline.
We need data to make sure REX is working properly but also to help us improve it so we can make it as useful as possible. The best way to do this is to get you to use it and feedback to use so we can make improvements.
What will you get in return?
We’re super exited to welcome our new team of REX testers so in return for your feedback we’ll give to a REX V1 licence free for a year. We’ll also be sending out limited edition “I tested REX” swag to everyone who helps us test REX and will invite you to an android developers and tester slack group where you can feedback on REX but also chat to other android tester and developers if you wish.
When do we need you?
We’re looking to start onboarding our testers in stages from Monday 27th July 2020. If you’re interested email us at email@example.com and we’ll create an account for you. Testing accounts are limited, so please only sign up if you have Android apps you’d like to test!
